What is FTsafe Rockey4ND Security?

FTsafe (pronounced F-T-Safe) is an advanced security system that allows you to protect your software Product(s) and enforce the terms of your license agreement.  In the simplest setup, your protected programs will not execute unless your specific Rockey4ND dongle (USB device) is plugged into the computer.  Your programs may be backed-up and moved, but will only run if the dongle is present.

The FTsafe programs are distributed as part of a complete SDK (Software Developer's Kit) that also allows you to test and evaluate the Rockey4ND Driverless USB protection device.  The SDK is available for Windows, Mac and Linux systems.

Within minutes of receiving the FTsafe SDK, you can encrypt and protect your application by using the Enveloper program.  This program is simple to use and doesn't require you to re-compile or change one line of source code.

The SDK includes two FTsafe Rockey4ND protection devices.  This USB Key is the first of a new generation of software protection "dongle" that does not require ANY Device Drivers to be loaded before it's plugged in.  That makes your Product simpler to deploy, use and support.

The SDK Editor program provides a visual interface to all the device features of the FTsafe Rockey4ND.  This program lets you experiment freely and develop a custom-tailored protection system that takes full advantage of the advanced capabilities of the Rockey4ND.

An electronic version of the Developer's Guide is also included in the SDK.  This is a complete reference document that contains an overview of the product concepts, hardware specifications, SDK program descriptions, a detailed reference of the Rockey4ND API and lots of examples and usage tips.

Finally, we include a huge number of Source Code Samples showing how to use the SDK to protect your product.

The current version of the FTsafe SDK on CD-ROM is sent with your first order of Rockey4ND hardware.  Afterwards, the latest version is always available (Free) from our Downloads page.

FTsafe Rockey4ND Hardware

The FTsafe Rockey4ND Devices (dongles) contain a custom microprocessor, EEPROM memory and specialized circuitry for random number generation.  This high-speed hardware is seriously secure.  The device has a translucent plastic case that allows it's LED indicator to be seen when the device is in use.  Also, the case design allows the device to be strung on a key ring to support a "Floating License".

Rockey4NDs are only available for USB ports.  Both USB v1.x and USB v2.0 ports are supported.  There can be up to 16 dongles plugged into the same computer at one time.

Rockey4NDs are available in six translucent colors: Green, Blue, Gray, Purple, Brown and Red.  And each one comes with a free matching Dust Cap.  All colors are stocked and there's no charge for mixing colors in the same order.  Rockey4NDs are shipped without labels.

The first time an FTsafe Rockey4ND is plugged into a Windows computer, the internal HID driver is installed automatically and ready to use with no intervention from the User.  No Device Drivers need to be loaded first!

And once your application is installed, it may be backed up and restored as necessary, but it will only run when your unique Rockey4ND dongle is attached to the computer.  The Envelope Encryption allows your application to interact with the Rockey4ND at start-up and also during runtime.  If the dongle has been removed or if an application module has been accessed a preset number of times, it can issue an error message and terminate, or take other alternative actions to ensure compliance with your licensing agreement.

The Rockey4ND also supports Execution Limits so you can limit the usage of your software.  This makes it extremely versatile and allows many marketing scenarios, including Demos, Software Leasing and Trialware

FTsafe Major Features

Driverless Operation on Windows
The FTsafe Rockey4ND is completely PlugNPlay without the need to install any device drivers on Windows 2000, Millennium, XP, Vista, Windows 7 and Server Editions.  The Rockey4ND is seen as an HID device and these supported Operating Systems already contain the device driver.  This has a huge effect on minimizing the amount of Support since all driver related issues are eliminated.

Support for Windows, x64, Linux and Mac OS X
FTsafe supports a broad range of Operating Systems from Windows 98SE thru Windows 7, including x64 and Server Editions, Mac OS X and Linux.

Envelope Encryption with Background Checks
The Enveloper program in the FTsafe SDK allows you to encrypt and protect your application in minutes.  It works with Windows Portable Executable files, such as .dll, .exe and .arx, and requires no source code changes.  In fact, you don't even need to have access to the source code.  You can specify a program startup check for the dongle, as well as periodic background checks as your software is running.

Execution Limits
The Rockey4ND also supports Execution Limits so you can limit the usage of your software.  This makes it extremely versatile and allows many marketing scenarios, including Demos, Software Leasing and Trialware.  The instant Envelope Encryption supports a single Execution Limit (for each program) but 64 separate limits are possible by using the API for custom security checks.

Protect Up To 64 Products With A Single Rockey4ND
FTsafe Rockey4NDs support 64 individual Module Zones where each zone can contain the authorization for a separate program or function.

High Speed On-Board Microprocessor for FAST Processing
The FTsafe Rockey4ND has its own powerful CPU, memory and specialized firmware and was designed to process even very complex algorithms with minimal delay for your application.  Users will typically notice no performance hit over the unprotected version of your software.

Guaranteed Unique Access Passwords for Each Customer
We employ an advanced Customer Management System that guarantees that the FTsafe Rockey4ND Access Passwords are unique for every one of our Customers.  This ensures that others can not read, edit or modify the contents of your dongles.  Also, the Hardware ID (Serial Number) of every dongle is guaranteed unique.  And finally, the Hashed Access Passwords and Hardware ID are burnt into the Rockey4ND's memory so they are permanent and tamperproof.

Maximum Protection with Custom Security
Custom security has never been easier.  The Rockey4ND API has been simplified and improved based on experience gained from earlier versions.  And many protection strategies and security tips are provided in the Developer's Guide and Source Code Samples.

Abundant Programming Language Samples
If you wish to setup custom security, the FTsafe SDK provides a huge number of Source Code Samples for using the Rockey4ND API in these common development tools: C++ Builder, Delphi, Java, PowerBuilder, Visual Basic, Visual C, Visual FoxPro, Visual Studio.NET, etc.

Compact Design Available in Six Translucent Colors
The FTsafe Rockey4ND USB dongle is among the smallest in the world at 2.01 x 0.63 x 0.28 inches (51mm x 16mm x 7mm).  And it is available in six translucent colors: Green, Blue, Gray, Purple, Brown and Red.  Each one comes with a free matching Dust Cap.

One Year Hardware Warranty
FTsafe Rockey4NDs come with a full one year warranty.  If a device fails due to a manufacturing defect (not physical abuse) within one year of purchase, Az-Tech will replace it free of charge according to our Return Merchandise Policy.

How To Get Started

To evaluate FTsafe, you can start by ordering a Software Developer's Kit (SDK) which is specially designed for evaluation purposes.  The FTsafe SDK includes:

The FTsafe Rockey4ND dongles in this SDK are exactly the same as the commercial version of the product in all respects, except one.  The four passwords burned into the SDK dongles are publicly known (P1:C44C, P2:C8F8, P3:0799, P4:C43B).

After evaluation, you can purchase FTsafe Rockey4NDs with secret and unique passwords, so others can not read, edit or modify the content in your dongles.

The FTsafe SDK includes the software tool for Envelope Encryption so you can get started right away testing the protection on your own applications.  Also provided is a full-featured Editor tool which allows you to setup and examine the contents of your Rockey4ND dongles.  Finally, in addition to the Developer's Guide, we've included a huge number of Source Code Samples in various languages.  This will get you started quickly if you want to use custom security checks to the Rockey4ND API.
